Marvel at Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake
While most people know that most of the Niagara Falls belongs to the United States, indeed the border runs right through the falls, not everyone knows that in order to appreciate the true beauty of the falls, you must be looking at it from Canada, specifically from Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls, ON.
This previously sleepy little place is now enlivened by all the tourists that pass by to take photographs and just enjoy the falls. In fact, Niagara Falls is consistently voted as a romantic place. Heck, even Superman and Lois Lane traveled in Canada and got married there, remember?
However, there is more to do than get married by the falls. You can even make a show of your bravery and descend to below the falls themselves. A tourist favorite since the middle 1800s, the attraction has been upgraded from a stairway to an elevator. You can do this year-round and it may be even more daring an attempt in the middle of winter!
Another up-close yet maybe more personal view may come at the railings near the waterfall. There is a certain spot there that is always drenched. According to legend, an Indian girl was betrayed by her lover and in her sorrow, she plunged to the bottom of the falls in her canoe. The “Maid of the Mist” as it is called bathes the visitors in her tears.
It’s become a theme park, somewhat, with all the large chain hotels and even numerous restaurants just by the falls. You can take in a different sort of view when you travel to the top of the Skylon Tower and take in the view from either the indoor or outdoor observation decks 233 meters above. At the top, you can dine while having an expansive view of the falls. Niagara Falls is a vacation paradise, indeed.
